Located outside Xi'An in the People's Republic of China, and completed in autumn of 2024, this new build project is a light industrial factory with 3 storey office attached. The factory services and supplies heavy cryogenic equipment to the manufacturing heartland of China. Local skills and finishing standards vary widely in China and are often lacking, particularly outside of category one cities like Shanghai and Beijing. The designs were therefore developed to embrace these "deficiencies" rather than covering them up as is the norm. The rough surfaces of the shell have been left exposed to acknowledge "The Industrial" whilst the surfaces of day to day interaction are crisply and precisely formed. A dichotomy echoed in the precision tooling which goes in to the cryogenic equipment that the factory supplies, with the heavy industrial environment in which they're installed.
